If you’re looking for a quick boost of immunity and energy to keep you feeling great, look no further than these Honey Ginger Shots.

Made from a powerful combination of fresh ginger root, fresh lemon juice, coconut water (or filtered water), honey, and cayenne pepper, this is the powerful kind of wellness shot.

The bold flavors of fresh ginger root and lemon juice are softened by sweet honey and coconut water, making for the perfect balance of flavors.

As for the cayenne pepper? Well, that addition isn’t for the faint of heart, but I guarantee it will wake you up!

I have shared this recipe with friends who want to boost their immune systems, who are battling with brutal hangovers or wanting to stave off a cold, and family members who were mostly just curious about the taste after seeing me toss one back.

Some people absolutely love it, others have mixed opinions, but no one can deny the incredible health benefits provided by these simple Honey Ginger Shots.

If you’ve never tried a ginger shot before, you may want to brace yourself for a spicy kick!

For anyone looking to cut back on their morning caffeine fix, these wellness shots are the perfect way of starting off your day with an instant rush of energy—no caffeine required. However, you can definitely have one before your morning coffee if that works best for you.

I can personally attest to the fact that my days are infinitely more productive when I start off with one of these Honey Ginger Shots.

Each ingredient in these shots is carefully selected for maximum ROI. In this case, the investment is your willingness to take a chance on a bold concoction and the return is, in my opinion, well worth it!

Ginger and lemon work together to cleanse the body and provide energy, coconut water is loaded with antioxidants, and cayenne pepper boosts the metabolism and supports the digestive system.

And the honey, you ask? Well, in addition to providing the body with essential vitamins and minerals, it also sweetens the shots so they taste way better.

Now that I’ve piqued your curiosity, let’s get into the good stuff.

Do I Really Need to Add Cayenne Pepper?

As a health coach, my sixth sense is telling me that this was probably the first thought for many of you, so I figured I should go ahead and address this first.

Cayenne pepper is arguably one of the most popular ingredients to add to wellness shots.

For starters, let’s get one thing straight. Cayenne pepper is a lot to handle! Not everyone wants to start their day with a burning sensation that warms up their entire body.

Unless you’re into that sort of thing.

To be honest, I didn’t love it at first, but I have definitely grown used to the feeling and have decided that the slight burn is worth the incredible benefits it brings to my overall health.

I recommend trying out this recipe with a tiny pinch of cayenne pepper the first time you make it and if you’re not a fan, leave it out the next time.

Don’t worry, these Honey Ginger Shots are still chock-full of nutrient-rich goodness without the cayenne pepper.

So, why do so many people add cayenne pepper to wellness shots anyway? Here are just a few of the reasons:

  • Boosts the metabolism by increasing the amount of heat your body produces.
  • Helps to reduce hunger, allowing you to feel full for longer.
  • May support digestive health and help the stomach fight infections.
  • May reduce high blood pressure.
  • Contains capsaicin, which may reduce the risk of cancer.

Health Benefits of Ginger

A close relative of turmeric and cardamom, ginger is known as one of the healthiest spices on the planet. Ginger can be used fresh, dried, ground, or juiced, and is often used in both cooking and cosmetics.

With such powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, it’s no wonder why ginger is one of the most popular ingredients to use in wellness shots.

Often referred to as ginger root, ginger has been used in traditional medicine for thousands of years, primarily for its incredible ability to settle the stomach.

The most prominent component of ginger is gingerol, which is loaded with anti-inflammatory properties and is responsible for the majority of its medicinal benefits.

Ginger is loaded with impressive health benefits, including the following:

  • Considered to be highly effective in treating nausea and bloating.
  • Aids in weight loss and healthy weight management.
  • Supports heart health by improving blood sugar levels and reducing the risk of heart disease.
  • Promotes a healthy digestive system and aids in indigestion.
  • Studies have shown that ginger can significantly reduce menstrual pain.
  • Gingerol, which is found in ginger in large amounts, is antiviral and antibacterial and contains properties that may reduce the risk of cancer.

Honey Ginger Shots Ingredients

To make these refreshing wellness-boosting shots, you will need the following key ingredients:

  • Fresh ginger root: Using fresh ginger is essential in this recipe, so don’t swap it out for the ground form. Ginger root is loaded with antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties that make it a fantastic and flavorful addition to any wellness shot.
  • Fresh lemon juice: Fresh lemon juice is packed with Vitamin C and antioxidants, and is known for its cleansing abilities on the digestive system and liver. It also boosts energy levels, which is why many people add lemon juice to their water in the morning.
  • Coconut water (or filtered water): This adds a subtle sweetness that acts as a brilliant contrast to strong flavors like ginger and lemon juice. Additionally, coconut water is loaded with vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants.
  • Honey: I like to use Manuka honey for its extra healing benefits, but any minimally processed honey works. Honey contains antibacterial and antioxidant properties that help to support the digestive system and boost immunity in the body.
  • Turmeric (optional): Turmeric adds even more anti-inflammatory properties to your ginger shots. It also aids digestion and has high antioxidant power.
  • Cayenne pepper (optional): This ingredient packs a definite flavor punch, which is why we only use it in small amounts. Cayenne pepper is great for boosting your metabolism and supporting digestive health. However, it’s optional, so feel free to leave it out if you aren’t a fan.

How to Make Honey Ginger Shots

Guess what? These shots are crazy easy to make! If you ask me, that’s always a big bonus in the mornings when I’m still groggy and half-asleep.

You don’t even need to peel the ginger, because we are going to strain out any chunks anyway for a nice, smooth finish. To make these Honey Ginger Shots, simply follow these 2 quick steps:

  1. Add the ginger, lemon juice, honey, coconut water, and cayenne pepper to a blender and pulse until thoroughly mixed.
  2. Strain the mixture into a jar and keep covered in your refrigerator up to 5 days. Take one to two ounces each morning. You can also take a ginger shot any time of day if desired.

How to Store Honey Ginger Shots

Storage of any kind of wellness shot is a bit tricky, primarily because they are best when served fresh. This is when you will really be able to maximize on the potential health benefits, which can, unfortunately, fade over time in the fridge.

If you want to make a few ginger shots at once, either for yourself or to share with friends and family, I recommend storing them in airtight glass jars. When stored properly, they will stay fresh in the fridge for up to 5 days.

Luckily, they are super easy to make and come together in just a few moments. Honestly, it’s probably quicker than making a cup of coffee. Especially if you’re like me and love to add a bunch of funky ingredients to your morning cup.

Frequently Asked Questions

Below are the answers to some of the most frequently asked questions about this healthy morning recipe:

Are ginger shots good for you?

Yes! The wholesome ingredients in these shots are each carefully selected based on their nutritional content and potential health benefits.

Ginger shots are known to support the digestive system, boost immunity, help fight harmful free radicals, and lower blood pressure.

Can you take ginger shots every day?

Absolutely. While I don’t recommend tossing back ginger shots throughout the day (you could wind up with heartburn), taking a ginger shot each day can have wonderful effects on your overall health.

When should I take a ginger shot?

I recommend taking ginger shots first thing in the morning on an empty stomach for the best results. It makes for a great way to kick off the day! However, if you forget that’s fine. You can take a ginger shot any time of day.

What else can you add to wellness shots?

If you’re looking to make your own concoction, the key is to use ingredients that maximize nutrients and potential health benefits in small quantities.
